Luke Backus started work on the distillery in 2016.
He aims to craft quality bourbon in the town that he was born in and to realize his dream of producing spirits ‘the right way.’ As the son of a maple producer, the brother of a cheesemaker, the nephew of a distiller, and a neighbor to a multitude of small businesses in specialized fields, he grew up with the tradition of crafting finely made products that require patience, expertise, and determination to bring into being.
Since 2019 Backus Distillery has added grain-to-glass bourbon to the list of products produced in the hilly, cool landscape of Westfield, Vermont.
